The mikvah is the epicenter of Jewish life, a way for us to welcome G-d into our families, homes, and communities. And yet around the world, there are hundreds of communities that do not have a local mikvah to serve the Jews of their cities and towns.
Some of these cities are hundreds or thousands of miles from the nearest mikvah. Some have to drive several hours, some have to fly, some have to immerse in the ocean. And many cities with mikvaos closer by face great challenges in not having a mikvah of their own - driving significant distances, not having access to the mikvah on Shabbos or Yom Tov, or using overcrowded or derelict mikvaos that can’t draw in new families to keep this integral and beautiful mitzvah.
Chabad has extensive experience with building hundreds of mikvaos around the world, especially in remote locations where mikva materials and experts are not easily accessible. In previous cases mikvaos were built on a case-by-case basis, with each community seeking the funds and support. The goal of the Global Mikvah Fund is to, for the first time, address the need for mikvaos as a whole, that no Jewish community should be overlooked or go without a mikvah for lack of local funds.
In honor of the 120th birthday of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn ob"m, we are committed to building 120 new mikvaos to support Jewish life worldwide.
